"We were never alone. Elizabeth was always there to help me obtain my political asylum in the USA."

Not having an attorney during an immigration court hearing would be like going unarmed into war without the necessary ammunition to ensure you or your family’s safety. During my hearings before the judge, of which there were three that lasted about 20 hours, Elizabeth was a mentor.  She guided and defended me with great intelligence, wisdom, assurance, and tenacity before every official we encountered in the process.

Francisco’s Story

Francisco is a political leader from Nicaragua who devoted his life to promoting liberal democratic policies and political organizations. He ran for political positions and was actively involved in local and national campaigns for over 16 years. In an effort to silence him, the Sandinista government targeted, attacked, and tortured him for years until he finally fled Nicaragua with his wife, Angelica, in 2012. From Houston, Francisco leads local and national organizations fighting for human rights and democracy in Nicaragua. Francisco’s colleagues who advocated alongside him have since been illegally jailed for their opposition to the ruling party.  The GHIRP legal team represented Francisco, presenting hours of testimony, arguments, and witnesses over several hearings before an immigration judge.  After nine years of fighting their case, Francisco and Angelica ultimately won asylum in the US in January 2022.

"My attorney, Elizabeth Sanchez Kennedy, gave me assurance and certainty throughout my political asylum case. She listened to us, valued, and supported us during the difficult legal process. Her commitment to our success was evident in how she pursued obtaining sufficient documentation to combine with our testimony explaining the events of our lives.
