Selena (she/hers/ella) is the Social Services Coordinator for the Immigrant Children & Youth (ICY) program. Prior to joining the team, she worked for Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo where she led policy directives like the Enhanced+ Library Card providing over 1.6 million immigrants with a photo ID through the County public library system.
Selena earned her Master’s degree in Political Social Work from the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work, and her Bachelor’s of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston- Downtown. She has been honored with the Gulf-South Summit Outstanding Student Contributions Award and the Malala Yousafzai Peace Award for her advocacy efforts in fighting for immigrant justice.
Selena is a lifelong learner, an activist, and a change maker. She has devoted her professional and leadership experience to leading immigrant justice reforms and outreach strategies to bring change to the immigration system from local jurisdictions up to the federal level.
