Ashley Winford

Ashley is an Equal Justice Works Fellow Attorney with the Detained Adult Program. Prior to joining the GHIRP team, Ashley was a Post-Bar Fellow with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office in the Felony Trial Bureau wherein she has successfully tried felony cases, as well as interned with HCDAO’s Human Trafficking Division. Ashley has additional intern experience with the Dekalb County Public Defender’s Office, the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, as well as a Chicago-based law firm handling criminal defense and civil rights appeals related to FOIA and expungement petitions. During law school, Ashley worked as a graduate assistant assisting students in resume and career building, won titles in Mock Trial and Closing Argument competitions, and served on multiple student organization executive boards.

Ashley received her Juris Doctor with honors, certified in criminal practice, from the Northern Illinois University College of Law in 2022 and her B.A. in Spanish Business Translation from Northern Illinois University in 2015. Ashley is licensed by the Supreme Court of Texas and admitted to the State Bar of Texas.
